The Onion is an American news satire organization. It is an entertainment newspaper and a website featuring satirical articles reporting on international, national, and local news, in addition to a non-satirical entertainment section known as The A.V. Club. It says 90 percent of its web site readers are between 18 and 44 years old. Since 2007, the organization published satirical news audio and video online, as the "Onion News Network". Web traffic on theonion.com amounts to an average of 7.5 million unique visitors per month.
The Onion's articles comment on current events, both real and fictional. It parodies traditional newspapers with stories, editorials, op-ed pieces, and man-in-the-street interviews, using a traditional newspaper layout and an editorial voice modeled after that of the Associated Press. Its humor often depends on presenting mundane, everyday events as newsworthy ("Weird Man Begins Every Morning By Dousing His Naked Body In Water") or exaggerating the media's portrayal of news ("NRA Calls For Teachers To Keep Loaded Gun Pointed At Class For Entire School Day").
